Vancouver’s Intricate Map Mural at Emelle’s Westside Kitchen

Jun 13, 2019 | News

For our 20th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate the people and places of Vancouver, who co-wrote the story of Emelle’s! We commissioned award-winning Vancouver artist, Carson Ting, to illustrate our community’s connection in his intricate mural, now showcased at our Westside Kitchen.

Carson illustrated a custom map of Vancouver, featuring a handful of iconic Vancouver landmarks including the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden (and its surprise visitor – the otter), the Stanley Park totem poles, Vancouver Art Gallery, and so much more. It also features caricatures of Vancouverites doing activities like drinking wine and walking down Davie Street, and even hidden easter eggs that are meaningful to the story of Emelle’s Catering. When we reflected upon our last 20 years, we were inspired by YOU — the people of Vancouver. We wanted to feature our clients, staff, and partners, who have been with us since the beginning (some even before the beginning!) and who we are tremendously grateful for. We set out to tell their stories, and the story of how we are a thread in the tapestry of Vancouver, in a creative way. And what better way to do that than through a custom art installation that would brighten up our cafe and infuse our personality into the physical walls of Emelle’s! Each of the 20 people illustrated in the map is also highlighted in their own editorial story, which you can read on our blog or on our cafe’s gallery wall. This creative journey of celebrating our clients, team, and partners, as well as the iconic Vancouver landmarks that we are honoured to work with, was the perfect way to celebrate our 20th anniversary.
